The conversation started when an elderly person approached me doing some landscape sketches at San Anton Gardens. We talked about everything to the point when I asked him a simple question: “ What do you miss most?”

The man started going back in time, back to his youthful age; what they used to do and play with; what his father used to tell him, that some day most of our culture would slowly fade out, street vendors with fresh milk, the women’s clothing ghonnella, Maltese balconies lit our streets in the daylight and the iconic luzzu, which today we see just a few floating on our shoreline.

“Cherish all these treasures that our fathers left us and pass them on to younger generations, as these are the things that make us Maltese and are never to be forgotten”
